Technical Questions

I own a TIMIO TM01-01 or TM01-02, how can I upgrade it to play the new Disc Set 4?

Check the back of your TIMIO for the model number. If your TIMIO has model number TM01-01 or TM01-02, you will need to upgrade the files in order to be able to play the new Disc Set 4 (TMD-04). Please follow these instructions. https://timio.co/pages/timio-language-files-update

What does it mean when all the LEDs light up on models TM01-01 and TM01-02?

If you have an older TIMIO model TM01-01 and TM01-02, all the LEDs will light up when the batteries are low. Replace the batteries with three new identical AA alkaline batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types. To extend battery life, turn the unit OFF when not in use. You may also use rechargeable AA batteries. These usuallly come with a charger. Rechargeable batteries of 2500mAh or higher will last a long time between charges. Note that even rechargeable batteries can become weaker over time. Exchange them in due time.

What does it mean when the green LED lights up on models TM02-02 and TM03-03?

On TIMIO models TM02-02 and TM03-03, the green LED on the 7 o'clock position, next to the Low Battery Symbol lights up when the batteries are low.

What is the difference between TM02-02 and TM03-03 models?

They are exactly the same. The only difference between them is that the newer model TM03-03 has a new packaging.

Does TIMIO require an internet connection?

No. After inserting the batteries, TIMIO works right out of the box and wherever you go, absolutely no WiFi needed. So you can also take it with you when traveling.

How many batteries does TIMIO require?

TIMIO works with three AA batteries. The battery compartment is safely concealed with a screw, making it much harder for children to access. If using rechargeable batteries, please use 2500mAh or higher, these last a very long time between charges. But keep in mind that even rechargeable batteries degrade over time and may need to be replaced at some point.

Are the batteries included?

Unfortunately, due to complex shipping regulations, batteries are not included.

How long will the batteries last?

It very much depends on the kind of batteries used and the duration of use per day. The generic store brands of batteries will not last very long. While the better quality brands like Duracell or Energizer will last substantially longer. Under normal usage conditions, when turning the power button to the OFF position when not in use, batteries should last a few weeks. If using rechargeable batteries please use 2500mAh or higher, these last a very long time between charges. We tested the Duracell 2500mAh rechargeable batterie for one hour of play per day and they lasted a whole month before needing a recharge. But keep in mind that even rechargeable batteries degrade over time and may need to be replaced after a while.

Why doesn’t TIMIO have an integrated rechargeable battery?

TIMIO is currently sold in over 60 countries. As a small team we are not able to deal with the complex country-specific shipping regulations related to integrated batteries, which are considered dangerous goods. Another negative point regarding integrated batteries, is that when not used for a long period of time, the batteries will die, and the whole device will need to be repaired or discarded. Finally, please keep in mind that, while practical, an integrated rechargeable battery needs to be recharged very frequently, just like a phone. So if a child wants to play, the device may not be readily available. We do however recommend using rechargeable AA batteries of 2500 or 3000mAh. We have tested these, and for an hour of usage per day, they lasted over a month! To save further power, we recommend turning the power switch of your TIMIO to the OFF position when not in use.

Can I use headphones with TIMIO?

Yes! TIMIO has and audio jack on the top of the unit for wired headphones. TIMIO does not work with bluetooth headphones.

  • CE SAFETY TEST
  • ITS TOY SAFETY TEST
  • ASTM Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety

Technical Support

My TIMIO is not working properly, what should I do?
  1. Please try changing the batteries with new ones. Only use high quality batteries. Generic and inexpensive store brand batteries are weaker and will empty fast.
  2. Does the issue occur with every disc? Please test several discs, as it could be just one defective disc.
  3. Check that the SD card located in the battery compartment is in its place. You can remove it and put it back a couple of times to insure proper placement, then try your device again.

My TIMIO is not reading the correct file.

TIMIO requires one full second to recognize the position of the disc. If you press too quickly, it may play the wrong file. TIMIO corrects itself automatically after one second. So when you put the disc just wait one more second before pressing an image.

One of the discs is not working, what should I do?

It's possible that the RFID tag in the disc is not programmed correctly. Please send us a picture of the disc along with your address to timio@timio.co, we'll replace it.
